While Alaia has a special spot for modeling and acting, we garnered that she has since become very vocal about women’s health as well following her battle with endometriosis.
According to Alaia, she started experiencing excruciating period pains in her early 20s and after several months of managing the pain, she was later referred to Dr. Seckin. She revealed that she was clear on every scan and MRIs that were carried out but when the pains were sustained, the doctor advised that she should get surgery.
Following the laparoscopic surgery, stage 2 endometriosis was removed from several areas of her body. The model confessed that her life had not remained the same since then. She stated that the illness got in the way of her life and career and she had to put everything on hold.
Nonetheless, she is living much better and shares her journey with her fans from all over the world just like the Italian model Giorgia Soleri who is also living with endometriosis. Alaia is on the junior board of the Endometriosis Foundation of America which actively creates awareness, facilitate expert surgical training, and fund landmark endometriosis research.
