Atlas Heche Tupper is the 15 year-old son of the famous actress Anne Heche and her ex-husband, James Tupper. His parents dated for more than a decade but never tied the knot. They eventually went their separate ways in 2018.
Although his parents are no longer together, they raised him as co-parents. Anne and James have kept their child away from the public until recently when he became a person of interest following his mother’s involvement in a fatal car crash.
Atlas’s mother, Anne Heche was reportedly engulfed in a fiery car crash in Los Angeles on 5 August 2022 that resulted in her suffering burns. After spending nine days in a coma, she was confirmed brain dead on August 13. Sadly, she passed on August 14 after she was taken off life support.
Atlas Heche Tupper’s Parents Dated for More Than a Decade
His mother and her ex-husband Coleman were together for five and a half years before they separated. During their marriage, they welcomed their only son Homer in 2002. Homer is said to be the actress’ first son and best friend.
Following her split from Coleman, Anne Heche began a decade-long relationship with Atlas’s father. Actor James Tupper stood by Anne Heche during her messy divorce battle with her previous partner.
The duo first met on the set of Men in Trees in 2006 while Anne was still married to Coleman. They dated for over a decade but they never got married. Atlas’ parents eventually separated in 2018.
Prior to her relationship with Coleman, Atlas’ mother allegedly dated TV host and comedian Ellen DeGeneres from 1997 to 2000.

Atlas Heche Tupper’s mother has had two children with two different people. His older brother, Homer was born during his mother’s marriage with Coleman Laffoon between 2001 to 2007.
Following her separation from Coleman, Anne and Tupper started dating and later announced they were expecting a child together in December 2008. A year later, Anne and James moved in together had had their son Atlas on 8 March 2009.
His Mother was Accused of Having Poor Parenting Skills
During his mother’s first divorce, Coleman claimed the actress was not psychologically capable of taking care of their son, Homer. The cameraman also added that Anne’s bizarre and delusional behavior was his major concern.
With respect to his claims, he asked the judge for joint custody of the then 5-year-old Homer. Aside from joint custody, Coleman asked for $33,000 as monthly spousal support because he allegedly earned not more than $6,000 as a videographer.
Apparently, Atlas Heche Tupper’s parents also went through a bitter child custody battle two years after they separated. According to reports, his mother demanded his father’s full financial records during their child custody battle.
Anne also asked that her former partner hand over his acting contracts to the court as well. Prior to that, it was confirmed that Anne Heche asked the court for full custody of their then-10-year-old and also child support from Tupper. She also requested that Atlas’ father pay for her legal fees from their custody battle.
Aside from the custody battle, People.com Atlas’ parents reportedly listed their $4 million L. A Home one year after they split.
Atlas Heche Tupper’s Mother Had an Estranged Relationship with Her Family
The Another Life actress allegedly suffered trauma as a child. Her parents, Donald Joseph Heche and Nancy Heche moved her family more than eleven times during her formative years. The Heche family was a choir director and so he had to switch jobs in other to provide for the family.
Due to financial constraints, Anne and her siblings were forced to take up odd jobs in other to support the family. However, there have been claims that Atlas’ mother was treated badly by her family. This was after she revealed her father raped her from when she was a baby till around age 12. Also, the actress claimed her mother was aware of the abuse but chose to turn a blind eye.
Atlas’ grandfather was allegedly gay and later died of HIV at the age of 45 while Anne was only 13. His maternal grandmother, on the other hand, is said to be a deeply religious woman. Although she and her daughter have an estranged relationship, she seems to be successful in her own right.
Grandma Nancy launched her career as a writer in 2006 and ever since she has contributed to many books. She is also a motivational speaker and activist.
Regarding his mother’s four siblings, only Abigail Heche is still alive. Atlas’ aunt Cynthia died as an infant following a heart defect. The oldest of Heche siblings was Susan Bergman. She was a writer and professor of literature before she passed at the age of 46 in 2006.
Atlas Heche’s only uncle allegedly committed suicide. However, there are speculations that the death was just an accident.

His Mother, Anne Heche is Reportedly in Critical Health Condition After Car Crash
On Friday 5 August 2022, Atlas’ mother was involved in two car accidents in the Mar Vista neighborhood of Los Angeles. The first accident was allegedly when she hit a garage at a complex apartment while the second accident was when she crashed into a house that resulted in a fierce fire.
The car crash caused a house fire that required 59 firefighters to quench the fire. It took firefighters almost 65 minutes to fully extinguish the fire. Luckily, she was rescued from the fire but had severe burns. The house was badly damaged but the tenant only had minor injuries.
Later on, law enforcement officials revealed the actress was allegedly under the influence of hard substances. To confirm the report, the Los Angeles Police Department reported that she had a preliminary blood analysis that asserted that she had narcotics in her system.
Ever since Atlas Tupper’s mother went into a coma. According to reports, Anne’s representative revealed she would require medical ventilation due to the pulmonary injury. However, on August 11, 2022, the spokesperson revealed that the Wide Side actress was not expected to survive due to an anoxic brain injury.
On 13th August, the mother of two was confirmed brain dead, and barely 24 hours later, she was taken off life support and her heart stopped beating. Since the mother of two had long wished that her organs be donated, reports claim her wish has been fulfilled.
At the moment, the 15-year-old has the love and support of many celebrities including his father, James Tupper who recently shared a photo of the mother of his son on Instagram with a heart-warming caption.
