Her first on-screen action is in the 2013 TV mini-series, Vanity Fair: Decades, but since then, she is yet to appear on the silver screen.
Besides, she is working as a part-time script reader at her father’s “The Radicle Act Productions”, which was established in 2019. Despite her family’s roots in the entertainment and movie world, she pursued her degree in the sciences.
She Has A Wide African Ancestry And Family History
Imani is one of two daughters born to award-winning actor and producer, Don Cheadle and actress Bridgid Coulter in 1997, however, she is yet to reveal the day and month of birth. She has an older sister, Ayana Tai Cheadle, born 2 years earlier in 1995.
Her family’s background and ancestry are complex as it has been traced to a number of countries in Africa including Cameroon, Nigeria, and Benin. Moreover, based on 2 DNA tests, the first one revealed her father is of Cameroonian descent. The second test indicates links one-third of her father’s African bloodline from Senegal to Liberia and one-quarter from Congo-Angola, while the rest comes from western Nigeria (Yoruba) and Benin.
Interestingly, when she was 11, a PBS series on African American Lives 2 profiled her family’s history, revealing how her great, great, great grandfather was part of the U.S. Colored Troops of West Florida in 1865. Also, her father’s family was part of the Chickasaw Nation, which was sovereign in the U.S. during the American slave trade era. When slavery was abolished, the nation didn’t recognize it until 1866.
Years after the recognition, her ancestors were neither United States nor Chickasaw citizens. That changed in the 1890s when lands held communally were redistributed by the Dawes Commission.
