Joe Roy, the main character of the entire Pop Watch content is a 90-year-old Puerto Rican husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, living and creating content out of Texas, Houston, United States of America.
His story is that of how a Puerto Rican Air Force officer turned a hilarious content creator with 186k YouTube subscribers and 1.5 M TikTok followers. Some constant things you’d realize about Joe is that he is blunt, he loves Mexican food, especially tacos and he loves b**ties.

Joe Roy was born in 1933
Pop Watch’s Joe Mack Roy was born on October 3, 1933, and is of Puerto Rican ancestry. He presently stays in Longview, Texas.
He attended Spring Hill High School and then upon graduating, immediately joined the United States Air Force. His station as an Air Force officer was at Ramey Air Force Base located in Puerto Rico.
Sometime in the 1950s Joe Roy was discharged back and has remained in Longview with his family for a very long time.
He met and married Maria in his 20s
When Joe was 21 years old and was with the Air Force, he was introduced to an 18-year-old girl named Maria. She turned out to be Joe’s wife for over 6 decades and still counting.
The couple was introduced to each other by a mutual friend named Gina. Roy was described as a shy boy then but this is a huge contrast to this internet sensation we all know now.

Joe and Maria hit things off instantly and he asked her to marry him. His discharge back was due in a few days and so they got married and returned together.
This union happened despite the warnings from Maria’s parents and family members. They worried that Joe Roy would kill her and they would never see her again. Maria was however resilient and chose to follow her heart.
Maria was a graduate as well who worked in a bank and then became a teacher at Kilgore College. At the college, she taught Banking, Spanish, and other subjects and had a career span of over 40 years.
Joe and Marie Roy have been living happily married for over 6 decades and allayed the fears of Maria’s family. They have also raised a close-knit family and live in unison.
They Have 1 Surviving Son and a Number of Offspring
Maria and Joe Roy’s union birthed 2 kids, 1 of whom is surviving and known as Billy Roy, both boys. They lost a son named David Roy who unfortunately passed away in 2019 at the age of 67. David, their first child, was born the same year they met and got married.
From their 2 children, Pop Watch and his wife famously known as Nan, now have 3 grandchildren and even great-grandchildren.
His grandson, Jason, Billy’s son, lives just across the street from Joe’s Longview home. This close proximity with his granddad prompted the beginning of the 90-year-old Air Force retiree’s internet fame.
Joe Roy AKA Pop is a Huge Internet Sensation
Joy Roy better known by his fans as Pop Watch is widely loved for his blunt commentaries. He says it as he means it and means it as he says it. Internet and social media users who have been introduced to his content came to love him for this attribute.
Pop Watch is a name that was given to him by his grandkids and that is what he is being called by almost everybody. Well, except for Nan who calls him everything else.
His fame began when his grandson, Jason, would record him just being himself as he interacted with him (Jason) and others, and share it on Facebook. He also gets to share nuggets that he gathered from his many years on earth.
Sometimes, they could just be in the car, taking a ride to someone and Jason would record these short videos and upload them on Facebook.
By July 2017, Pop Watch started his YouTube channel where the short videos were uploaded to. On the channel, he has amassed 186k subscribers who obviously love his videos and every content he puts out.
On Facebook, the Pop Watch account has 3.4 M Followers who constantly engage in the videos posted there.
Pop Watch TikTok account boasts of having 1.5 M and counting followers. These accounts were all started by Jason Roy, who is a big part of the Pop Watch content creation.
Nan on the other hand, only makes a few cameos on these videos. According to the mother of 2, she has lived with Joe most of her life and knows that he is exactly as captured in the videos.
In as much as most of the videos are hilarious, many Puerto Ricans who watch them find Pop totally relatable. Most of his fans liken him to their own grandfather while non-Puerto-Ricans just marvel and laugh at the former officer’s wit and blunt remarks.

Joe Roy is unfazed by the Fame
Followers of Pop Watch can tell that there are a few things that matter to Joe. Give him Mexican dishes like Tacos, allow him to talk about booties all he wants, and let him sit on the front porch of his Longview home, and Joe is good to go.
However, life isn’t always that simple for an internet sensation who is widely loved by many.
Many times, people pass by Joe’s house or see him somewhere and are instantly smitten and drawn to him.
While it may seem to others that they have met a celebrity of some sort, Joe Roy doesn’t see it that way.
He admitted that he sometimes wards fans away with the wave of his hand. Other times, he just lets them talk and when they are done and tired, he lets them run along.
Clearly, he isn’t about all that paparazzi and fan thing.
This doesn’t decrease the watch time of his videos, though. Whenever a new video drops, fans, and followers eagerly watch and drop their comments and love for the grandpa.
