On January 23, 2006, in Montenegro, the then 15 years old Nikola became a victim and survivor of the Bioče derailment – a train crash and the worst train disaster in Montenegrin history at the time of this writing.
Although there was a member of the youth basketball team he was traveling with that lost his life, Nikola recounts suffering minor bruises and cuts
