The news that made waves in 2002 was that Stacy DeGrandchamp was stabbed to death. However, the case remained unsolved till 2021 when her best friend, Holly Boisvert pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter.
Prior, the two attended high school together and at the time, they had a fallout that led to a physical fight.
Following the arrest of Boisvert in 2020, she was charged to court and sentenced to twenty years in prison. If you consider this story an oddity, here are all the details.
Stacy DeGrandchamp was Stabbed in August 2002 After an Altercation with Holly Boisvert
Born in 1985 to Rita K. DeGrandchamp and an unidentified father, 17-year-old Stacy DeGrandchamp was like every teen growing up and having a good time with friends.
She had a dream of attending Ball State University to study Computer Technology. Stacy had only one week to enter her senior year at Wayne High School.
However, she never lived to see these dreams come to pass as her life was cut short in 2002 after she was stabbed. This happened in Fort Wayne Indiana home on August 15 and she died on the 16 at Parkview Memorial Hospital.
A slow look into the events leading up to the moment she took her last breath shows that she had an altercation with a girl, Holly Boisvert, also identified as her best friend.
According to eyewitnesses, the two girls fought that night and even went physical with each other.
The police later found DeGrandchamp’s bleeding body in the driveway.
Holly Denied Having a Knife During The Fight
Following DeGrandchamp’s sad demise, the police interviewed Holly to find out what happened.
Considering that DeGrandchamp was stabbed, Boisvert denied having a knife during the fight. In fact, she claimed that the deceased may have been knocked into some recycling bins.
The Case was Reopened 17 Years Later
Following Boisvert’s denial, the case became cold. However, the police opened the case again in 2019. One would wonder what prompted this considering that it had been 17 years since the whole incident happened.
It turns out that the police started reviewing materials they collected during the investigation and homicide detective Brian Martin discovered new evidence.
The Police Arrested Boisvert in Connection to the Case
Now [age dob=”19850101″] years old, Holly Boisvert was arrested in March 2020 in Ford du Lac where she was living. This was a joint action by both the Fort Wayne police and the Fond du Lac police force.
According to Det. Brian Martin, they were able to interview her for about two hours. At first, she seemed surprised but later opened up.
She confessed to stabbing her best friend. Boisvert regretted getting involved in the altercation and thought if she had worked away, she may not have killed DeGrandchamp.
After this, she produced the knife she used to stab DeGrandchamp. The knife was given to pathologists in Allen County. After this, the pathologist’s report concluded that it was indeed the murder weapon.
