María Cecilia Botero is the wife of late Television and film director, David Stivel. She is a Colombian actress, TV presenter, and Journalist.
She made her debut in the Movie industry in 1972, when she starred in a movie titled “María”. Botero has created a reputation for herself and is considered one of the most loved personalities in the Colombian entertainment industry.
Early Life and Biography of María Cecilia Botero
María Cecilia Botero Cadavid was born on the 13th of May, 1955 in Medellin, Antioquia, Columbia. She is the daughter of Former actor, Librettist, and Director, Jaime Botero Gómez. Her siblings Óscar Botero and Ana Cristina Botero are also in the movie industry.
Botero studied anthropology at the Venice District Educational Institution and was on her way to becoming an anthropologist before she fell in love with acting. She made her TV debut in 1971, and one year later, she debuted in film.
In 1982, María got married to the love of her life, David Stivel and they remained married until his death in 1992.

David Stivel was an Argentine TV and Film Director. He was born on the 4th of October, 1930 in Buenos Aires, Argentina. He started his career in the 1950s with Theatre before evolving to television and later, film.
Stivel was an outstanding writer, producer, and director in Argentina and Columbia. Before he went into the entertainment industry, he started studying economics but dropped out to chase his dreams after two years.
In 1975, he migrated to Colombia from Argentina after he was threatened to be killed by the Argentine Anticommunist Alliance. There he got a directing role on the “Cita con Pacheco” program, a weekly series on Columbian TV.
He settled in Bogotá and got married in 1978 to radio presenter and journalist, Virginia Vallejo. The couple however separated in 1981, after Vallejo had a scandalous affair with the drug lord, Pablo Escobar. According to Vallejo, Stivel refused to sign the divorce papers until 1983, after a lot of pressure from Escobar, Vallejo’s Lover.
Before his marriage to Virginia Vallejo, he married Zulema Katz in 1956 and got divorced in 1964. Also, he got married to Bárbara Mujica in 1965 and divorced in 1976 after 11 years of marriage.
Botero remained with David Stivel till his Death
In 1982, María Cecilia Botero got married to David Stivel. During the duration of their marriage, Botero featured in a lot of telenovelas and musical comedies directed by her husband.
Although there is no information as to how the couple met, it is speculated that they met in the entertainment industry which both of them were part of.
Their marriage was blessed with a son, Mateo Stivelberg, who is also in the entertainment industry as a TV director, just like his father.
David Stivel died on the 20th of October 1992 in Bogota, the capital city of Columbia, after years of battling Kidney Cancer. Ever since Stivel’s Death, Botero has been focusing on her career and has not remarried.

Encanto is a 2021 American animated film produced by Walt Disney Productions. It premiered in November 2021 and so far, it grossed over $256 million worldwide.
Encanto, though released in 2021, has gone ahead to win a lot of awards including an Academy Award for Best Animated Feature Film and a Golden Globe Award.
The plot is about a multi-generational Columbian family known as the Madrigals, who have gifts from a miracle that helps them serve their community. María Cecilia Botero voiced the character of Alma Madrigal, the 75-year-old matriach of the Madrigal family.
She has also appeared in movies and telenovelas including “Caballo Viejo” (1988) and “Música Maestro” (1990) and most recently “Enfermeras” (2019) and “La venganza de Analía”.

María Cecilia Botero’s son, Mateo Stivelberg Botero is a Columbian filmmaker, writer, and actor who was born in 1983. He studied Film directing at the Universidad del Cine in Buenos Aires. There he collaborated in the production of a short film titled Miradas Sobre in 2007.
He made his debut in the entertainment industry in 2000. He was part of the production crew of the television series, “Rosario Tijeras” and “Popland”. Other films directed by the Columbian director include “El man del porno” (2019), “The Secret Law” (2019), and “Always a Witch” (2019).
