Vickie Lynn Swayze tragedically passed in 1994 after battling depression for several years. Her death did not only come as a shock to her family members but also positivity. Her brother, Patrick Swayze reportedly stopped drinking alcohol after she passed.
She was born into the Swayze family, which was known as an American musical family comprising five siblings. She herself had a career as an actress and also a dancer with Dancing with the Angels.
Vickie Lynn Swayze Was the Oldest of the Swayze’s Siblings
Born to Patsy and Jesse Swayze on June 8, 1949, in Houston, Texas, Vickie Lynn was the older sibling in her family. Her father worked as an engineer in Texas while her mother was a ballerina. Vickie’s mother was reportedly a very good dancer and choreographer who also taught her children how to make a living out of dancing.
While growing up, the late actress and her siblings witnessed intense tensions and differences among their parents. This would later add to Vickie’s mental distress.
Aside from Patrick, her other siblings include Don, Sean, and Bambi.
Vickie’s Mother Raised Her and Her Siblings To Be Perfect
Vickie and her siblings reportedly had a difficult upbringing. Her mother was said to be a ruthless woman who wanted all her children to be perfect. However, her brother Patrick revealed later on that all the love they got as children was from their father.
Her father was described as a gentle soul and an intelligent man who later died in 1982.

She Battled with Depression for Several Years
While growing up, Vickie saw how her father would threaten her mother about divorce and it affected her mental health. The trauma of growing up in a hostile home was too much for her to handle. In her 40s, she started struggling with depression. At the age of 45, she died of an overdose of pills and painkillers on December 2, 1994. It was later revealed that she took her life by overdosing on pills.
Vickie’s unexpected death did not only traumatize her mother but also her husband and two children. All her family members were so terrified and it was difficult for them to accept the truth about her death.
Vickie Lynn Swayze was buried next to her father who died of alcoholism at the Assumption Catholic Cemetry.
All Her Siblings Have worked in the Entertainment Industry
Vickie and all her siblings were all trained first as dancers and later actors. The most prominent ones are Don and Patrick.
Patrick was well known for his romantic roles and comedic character portrayal. In 1991, he was named the Sexiest Man Alive by the People Magazine.
His acting skills have earned him three nominations for the Golden Globe Award for Best Lead Actor in a Motion Picture and also, and he was honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 1997.
Don Swayzes, who happens to be keeping the family’s legacy began his film career in 1980. Aside from his acting career, he is reportedly a cyclist and skydiver.
Sean is not as famous as his older ones. He has worked behind the cameras in movies like Letters From A Killer. Vickie’s adopted sister Bambi has also tried to pursue a career in acting but has not been as successful as her older siblings. She is rather known for her messy divorce battle with her ex-husband, Don Franzen.
Her Brother, Patrick Died of Cancer Complications
Following her death, her brother reported stopped drinking alcohol because of the effect of her death. The town siblings were reportedly very close. Because of that, he entered rehab treatment for alcoholism while mourning his sister. To add to his pain, the actor reportedly felt he was cursed after his sister allegedly committed suicide. He revealed he would have done something about it if he knew.
Almost a decade later, Patrick was diagnosed with stage IV pancreatic cancer. Later in 2009, she was hospitalized with pneumonia and after a couple of complications regarding his health, he died on September 14, 2009, at the age of 57.
Is Vickie Lynn Swayze’s Mother Still Alive?
Based on reports, the renowned dance instructor and choreographer started her career in dance after she was hit by a car so she enrolled in dance classes as a therapy. She eventually got trained in both Jazz and classical ballet.
Aside from training all five of her children to be dancers and actors, Patsy taught dance and choreography for eighteen years at the University of Houston.
After a lifelong career in the entertainment industry, she has been credited for training great choreographers like Debbie Allen, Randy Quaid, and Jaclyn Smith.
At the age of 86, Vickie’s mother died on September 16, 2013, following a stroke complication at her home in Simi Valley.
