Since 2021 she has starred as Barbara Howard on the ABC mockumentary sitcom Abbott Elementary, for which she received the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series, becoming the first Black woman in 35 years to win the award. She also partnered with her mother to create global “Sister Circles” where women and children infected and affected with HIV/AIDS are allowed to speak and tell their stories with other women and children from around the world.
